Peace Day Activities for Children – What Are You Planning?

World peace day is fast approaching -it is on 21 September. Have you made your commitment and have you thought about your children’s involvement?

This is the one day of the year when we can all make our official personal commitment to world peace, and perhaps even more importantly, help our children to commit to world peace.

This one recognized day of peace each year, is the brilliant work of Jeremy Gilley and his Peace One Day campaign. It is magnificent that we now have that one day, but of course it is our duty to ensure that the concept of peace is not just a part of ONE day. It needs to be a part of our daily lives, and that of our children. After all, bottom line is:

If there is to be peace in the world, there must be peace in our hearts and minds.

I made this quick video whilst sitting outside my children’s school yesterday. In helping the school to organise Peace Day activities for children, my main wish is that the day can have a lasting positive effect on the children -- something that sows a seed of peace in their minds and hearts.

Please take just a few minutes to listen to my video. I would love to hear if you are planning anything, and if so, what you are planning -- leave me any feedback at all!

Amanda,
Thanks for these great ideas and for making me think about this. I had some card readings done this week and last week and both of them have been about creating more peace. I realized that I have to start with me! I have to work on creating and maintaining peace inside and that is the most powerful thing I can do. My son is only two but I promise I will find a way to help him celebrate peace not only on September 21 but all month. Thanks again! What I think I will do is find a peaceful song and we will listen to it everyday in September. How does that sound?! Any suggestions for a peaceful song for a toddler and mum?

Hi Rebecca
Thanks for your feedback – that sounds great! Sorry for the delay in replying – I ahve been waiting to hear from someone I know who has written a great song which would be perfect ofr you and your little one! The only problem is I still haven’t heard back form her so I don’t have the info. However, I will certainly pass it on to you as soon as I get it. I may be able to send you the MP3. Let me know if you come up with suggestions.
Cheers, Amanda

Thanks Amanda for the great post. With the date fast approaching it is a great reminder of something I need to share with my young children to start educating them on the importance of peace.

Amanda,

Splendid post my friend.

Thanks for the little nudge and here’s why…

With a few strokes of the keyboard and a video
camera, you have just broached a concept that
I have inadvertently failed to pass on to my kids.

I try to be a proper mentor for them in so many
areas of life but I need to keep “peace” top of
mind for them.

Now that I think about it, because they fight
amongst themselves so often they provide a
more than ample segue for a discussion of
peace and how important it is to all of us
on the face of this planet.

As I talk with my kids, I want to share this post
with them…if you don’t mind.

Thanks again.

Peace

Kevin

Thanks for your great comment Kevin.

I am glad you found it helpful and I would love you to share the post with your children! Let me know what they think?

I have a great song you could share with them too – to help with inner peace. It is written and recorded by a friend of mine specifically for this purpose. It is free and it has copyright ONLY ever to be given away and not used for fundraising! Would you like me to email it to you?

I love your blog and will visit again!

Cheers,

Amanda

Hi Amanda!!! I’m a second grade teacher and in my school we celebrate peace day every year in a different way. Sometimes we’ve had school-wide activities. But this year each class must plan an activity according to its grade level. We have an idea, but we I’m thinking of other possibilities that will stick to them for their whole lives and keep on passing it on. However, I read you have a nice song related to this theme and I would really appreciate if you would share it with me. I commit to share it as well with my colleagues.
Thanks a lot
